CAPLAX Mission

The Capital Area Girls Lacrosse is a volunteer-run organization aimed at promoting and growing the sport of lacrosse in the Central Texas area. Teams in CAPLAX practice and play mostly in the Spring season and are comprised of girls in 3rd grade through 8th grade.

Teaching Focus

The Leagues associated with CAPLAX focus primarily on teaching young girls the fundementals of safety and technique within lacrosse. We reinforce fun, positive, and spirited play in our matches. Lacrosse can teach young girls healthy competitiveness and self confidence as well as leadership skills.

CAPLAX teams are determined by the player’s age, tenure, skill, and sometimes number of players in each league. Each of these criteria is used to determined the individual team structures by the coaches in each team.

The Game

The fundamental concepts of girl’s lacrosse are the same as adult lacrosse. Players try to score goals by using a stick, which features a plastic or wooden head with netting at the end, to shoot a ball into the goal. The are various rule differences between women’s and youth girl’s lacrosse.

There are various resources for beginners and girls interested in learning about the sport.

  • This video produced by USA Lacrosse in 2004 was made to introduce players to the sport and give a quick overview of the game and some of it’s basic rules.
  • There’s also the Lacrosse Parent’s Handbook
  • Our Organization follows the A rules under the USA Lacrosse Organization. We do modify certain aspects of game play, such as the number of time outs allowed per team per game, in order to better fit the learning curve of our girls.
  • Our Middle School matches are officiated by a referee and most of our Elementary matches are officiated by a coach.

  • Gear Required to Play:
    • Girls Youth Lacrosse Stick
    • Lacrosse Goggles
    • Mouth Guard
    • Cleats
    • Comfortable Work Out Clothing
    • Other Items, such as ball or goalie stick, may be required by each specific league.

While some of the equipment can imply that this is a contact sport, these items are a precaution. Teaching and enforcing our player’s safety is the number one priority of youth lacrosse.
